Users Say Grok Bot Usage Jumped to 100% Mid-Week, Not at Reset

Some Grok Bot users say their weekly usage meters jumped mid-week, not at the normal reset, and pushed them straight to 100%.

Replies under a Sunday cancel post from Greg, who posts as @GregGaskell, keep coming back to that timing. @Lcooleya wrote that the cut “should have reduced usage at the reset not mid usage,” and that the change should have been announced instead of “leaving everyone hanging.” @GigabearForever added that “this change needed to come with a reset,” warning that delays could lock in cancellations.

Greg said he is dropping SuperGrok Heavy after his meter moved from 50% to 100% overnight following a restart. He pays $300 a month, wrote that routines were basic and unchanged, and said support told him he had used the allowance, with a human reply taking three to four days.

“That is underhanded. My business stopped. I am removing everything from Grok Bot and not renewing,” Greg wrote. In the same post he said Musk later tied the squeeze to serving costs that were “unsustainably high relative to revenue,” and that “pools were adjusted.”

Musk’s own Sunday reply to @DogecoinNorway used that cost line after the user asked for a reset, saying lots of people ran out fast. Musk later answered a quote of the cost post with “Just being sensible,” and separately asked another user whether the price jump to a higher usage plan was too high.

Tracking the meter is another sore point. Remaining allowance sits under Settings, Usage in the app, according to replies from @grok on X, and some users say they only catch a sudden jump by asking the bot what ran or by checking that screen often. In Greg’s thread, @Clevernesspc1 said paid plans share one weekly pool and that “no request or credit counts are published,” so a 50% to 100% overnight jump “can’t be audited.”

The meter change lands after a run of new bot tools, from Pages, Vault and video to a referral program with a free two-week Premium trial. Neither Musk nor xAI has said in a formal release whether affected subscribers will get a reset, a refund or a clearer live usage readout.

Did your Grok Bot usage jump mid-week, and how do you usually check what is left?
