Tesla App Finally Goes Big Screen With iPad and iPhone Duo Support

Tesla’s mobile app is rolling out with its first layout designed for bigger screens, covering the iPad, Apple’s new iPhone Duo foldable, and Android tablets and foldables.

That’s according to Tesla designer Alex Guichet, who works on the human interface for Tesla Energy and Tesla Charging. He posted on X on October 21 at 8:46 AM PT that “the Tesla App is rolling out now for iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android Tablets and Foldables,” adding, “Finally on the big screens you bring around with you.”

His screenshots, both taken on an iPad, show a two-column design with a menu down the left side and a large 3D view on the right. On a Powerwall 3 home, the left column lists Home Status, Home Controls, Energy, Impact, Virtual Power Plant, Settings and Go Off-Grid, while the right side shows a house with live power flowing between the solar panels, the Powerwall, the grid and a Model S charging in the garage. The vehicle screen works the same way, with Controls, Climate, Location, Self-Driving, Summon, Charging, Set Schedules, Security and Drivers, and Safety Score on the left, and the car on the right with frunk, trunk and lock shortcuts plus Flash, Honk, Start and Vent buttons along the bottom.

In a follow-up post, Guichet said Tesla’s design team “rethought many screens across the app to fill a bigger size,” and that the work isn’t finished. “We’re still brainstorming, and will update and polish more in future releases,” he wrote.

Owners who don’t see the new layout yet may need to wait a little longer. Guichet later added that this release “will be a slow rollout, it may take an extra week or two for everyone to get it while we gain our confidence that we got every screen right,” joking that “our app is bigger than you imagine.”

As of Wednesday morning, Tesla’s App Store listing still showed version 4.61.6 from October 8, with release notes that only mention “minor fixes and improvements,” and the listing still names iPhone and Apple Watch as its supported devices. That points to Tesla switching the tablet layout on gradually from its side rather than through a new download, which lines up with the slow rollout Guichet described. Tesla’s official account had not posted about the change at the time of writing.

Apple’s foldable is a big reason the timing makes sense. According to Apple, the iPhone Duo opened for pre-orders on October 16 and goes on sale this Friday, October 23, with an inner display that is 50 percent larger than the one on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Without a tablet layout, the Tesla app would have been one of many phone apps that simply stretched to fill that bigger screen.

Tablet support caps a busy few months for the app. Version 4.61.0 arrived in September with passkey sign-in using Face ID or Touch ID, and around the same time Tesla Charging confirmed that Supercharger Site Maps are live in the latest app, bringing the stall-level station view from the car’s display to phones.

Apple Watch owners got their own version in December 2024, when app version 4.39.5 brought the Tesla Apple Watch app with watch key support, letting owners lock, unlock and start their cars without an iPhone, along with controls for charging, climate and the frunk.

Will you be using the Tesla app on your iPad or foldable, and which screen would you like Tesla to polish first?
