Tesla Halloween Update 2026.38.3 Adds Emergency Drive Away and Home Backup

Tesla is rolling out software update 2026.38.3 with two major additions, including Emergency Drive Away, which lets drivers shift into Drive while still plugged into a Supercharger, and Powershare Home Backup, which can add up to two days of home backup with a Model 3 or Model Y, or three days with a Cybertruck, when paired with a Powerwall.

Emergency Drive Away does what its name suggests. Tesla’s charging division announced the feature earlier this month, saying it allows a driver to shift into Drive without first unplugging from a Supercharger, giving owners another option in situations where they need to leave immediately.

For homeowners, the larger addition is Powershare Home Backup. Tesla’s energy division confirmed the feature is now available for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles paired with Powerwall 3, extending home backup by more than two days. Cybertruck owners can extend backup by up to three days. The launch of Powershare Home Backup was detailed in a separate announcement earlier today.

The 2026.38.3 release follows 2026.38, which brought updated visuals to legacy Model 3 and Model Y, as Tesla continues adding new capabilities through routine over-the-air updates rather than limiting them to new vehicles. The approach lets the company expand what existing hardware can do after owners have already taken delivery.

Together, the two features focus on situations where owners may need their vehicle for more than routine driving. Emergency Drive Away is designed to help drivers leave a charging location quickly, while Powershare Home Backup gives compatible vehicles another role during a power outage. With 2026.38.3, Tesla is extending the usefulness of its vehicles in both situations through software.
