Elon Musk to Rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI

Elon Musk said overnight that his artificial intelligence company SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI, extending his push to replace the term “AI” with “SI,” short for superintelligence.

In a series of posts on X in the early hours of Sunday morning, Musk wrote “No more AI,” followed by “SI” and the line “It’s better.” He then added “SpaceX is a super intelligence company.” When another user suggested renaming SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, Musk replied: “Yes, we will make that change.”

The rename would be the second for Musk’s AI business in less than a year. SpaceX acquired xAI in February in an all-stock deal, and in July the company officially adopted the SpaceXAI name and unveiled a new logo. Musk said in May that “xAI will be dissolved as a separate company, so it will just be SpaceXAI, the AI products from SpaceX.”

The “SI” push follows the White House’s move to rebrand artificial intelligence as “superintelligence” across the federal government. Musk publicly backed the change on Tuesday, posting the words “Super Intelligence.” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang adopted the term the same day, describing the massive computing facilities his chips power as superintelligence factories.

Musk did not say when the SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI change would take effect, whether it is a legal renaming or a branding update, or whether the company’s @SpaceXAI account on X will change its handle. No formal announcement from the company had followed the posts as of Sunday morning.

If the rename goes ahead, SpaceXAI will go down as one of the shortest-lived corporate names in Musk’s portfolio, lasting less than three months from the July rebrand.
