Tesla Model 3 Becomes First EV to Rank #1 in Spain, Model Y Tops France

The Tesla Model 3 was the #1 registered vehicle in Spain in September, making it the first EV ever to lead the country’s vehicle registrations, while the Model Y finished #1 in France over the same month.

Tesla Europe shared both results on X on October 2, describing the Spain result as “a first-ever for an EV leading Spanish registrations.” The post did not include unit counts or market share figures for either country.

The Spanish result carries more weight because no electric vehicle had ever topped the country’s monthly registration charts before, meaning gas and hybrid models had held that spot every month until now. For a sedan like the Model 3 to break that streak is a notable moment for EV adoption in one of Europe’s larger car markets.

In France, the Model Y finishing first gives Tesla a second major European market where one of its vehicles led the overall field in September. The crossover recently beat the Rivian R2 in a highway range test despite carrying a smaller battery.

The milestones cap a strong end to the quarter for Tesla, which delivered 486,532 vehicles in Q3 2026, beating the company-compiled analyst consensus of 461,974 vehicles. September is the final month of the quarter, when Tesla typically pushes hardest to get cars into customers’ hands. Charging access keeps growing too, with the Supercharger network now topping 85,000 stalls across 9,000 sites.

The next thing to watch is whether the Model 3 and Model Y can hold their spots once October registration data comes out in early November, since September results often benefit from the end-of-quarter delivery push. Full September breakdowns from national industry groups in Spain and France should also show how wide Tesla’s lead was in each market.
