Elon Musk has revealed the scale of SpaceXAI’s computing ambitions, outlining a Colossus expansion that could reach 1.44 million GPUs by the end of December.
Musk said Thursday that Colossus 1 operates with 150,000 H100, 50,000 H200 and 30,000 GB200 chips, while Colossus 2 contains 110,000 GB200 and 440,000 GB300 chips. He added that another 220,000 GB300 chips will be fully operational next week, followed by another 220,000 in November and, if the company gets lucky, another 220,000 by late December.
The additional waves would bring SpaceXAI to roughly 1.44 million GPUs by late December if the final 220,000 chips arrive on schedule. Musk also explained the unusual 110,000 figure in a reply, saying: “The strange multiple of 110k is due to the number of fiber optic cables that can be plugged into a central switch.”
This expansion supports SpaceXAI’s broader AI efforts. Musk said this week that the company could take AI pole position within six months if growth holds, with the new hardware powering models such as Grok 4.7, the company’s smartest AI yet for writing code. The Grok Bot, which recently gained voice calls and other new features, will also rely on the expanded fleet. That scale highlights the growing importance of computing capacity in SpaceXAI’s strategy.
If the December expansion is completed, SpaceXAI will end 2026 with one of the largest GPU fleets on the planet.
