Tesla App Leak Reveals Gen 3 Optimus References

A teardown of Tesla’s Android app has surfaced references to a third-generation Optimus robot, with Tesla’s own asset filenames labeling the hardware as “Gen 3”.

App sleuth Ming, who posts on X as @tslaming, said Wednesday he independently verified the discovery in Tesla’s Android app version 4.60.5-4573. The app’s signed asset package includes three image files, robot_closeup_gen3.png, robot_home_full_body_gen3.png and robot_home_inactive_gen3.png, which confirm Tesla internally labels the asset “Gen 3”. He cautioned the artwork may not reflect the final production design.

The renders point to a cleaner, more finished robot than anything Tesla has shown publicly. Gone are the exposed actuators and messy wiring harnesses of earlier builds, with every joint sealed behind sleek, flexible shrouds. Ming described the sealed design as a major step for factory floor safety, where dangling wires could create hazards around workers and equipment.

The find lands as Tesla accelerates its real-world Optimus program. The company is delaying the official Optimus 3 reveal to keep competitors from copying its design, while a dedicated Optimus factory at Giga Texas nears completion and Tesla has started auditing suppliers across China ahead of a mass production push. The mobile app has also hinted at Optimus ties in recent updates, suggesting the robot is weaving deeper into the company’s software.

For Tesla watchers, the leak matters because asset labels like these typically appear when software is being prepared for hardware that is getting closer to launch. The filenames also corroborate the internal “Gen 3” name months after a third-generation robot was acknowledged to be in development.

Tesla has not commented on the app findings or shared a timeline for showing the new robot. If the filenames are any guide, though, the next Optimus reveal may already be hiding in plain sight.
