Tesla released a 57-second tutorial Sunday covering the cabin climate basics every new owner figures out in the first week: checking the interior temperature, heating or cooling the cabin before driving (even while it’s parked in a garage), adjusting the seat heaters, and defrosting the windshield.
If you just took delivery, preconditioning is worth learning first. Before you head out to the car, you can warm the cabin on a cold morning or cool it down on a hot afternoon, so you step into a comfortable car instead of waiting for the temperature to catch up.
It is useful for more than comfort. Warming the cabin ahead of time also clears frost from the windshield, which saves a few minutes of scraping on winter mornings, and preconditioning in cold weather warms the battery too, which can help with efficiency on those first miles.
These controls build on features Tesla has offered for years. New owners can also set recurring departure schedules so the car is ready at the same time each day. Inside the car, the climate screen supports dual-zone controls that let the driver and passenger set different temperatures. And for winter driving, Tesla added Supercharger battery heating for cold climates in late 2024 to warm the pack en route to a charger.
Tesla’s tutorial channel keeps adding short guides for new and existing owners, so more of these short explainers are likely on the way.
