Starlink V5 Terminal Moves Into Production, Elon Says

Starlink V4 and V5 residential terminals side by side

Elon Musk confirmed late Wednesday that Starlink V5 terminals have moved from product reveal into active manufacturing, quoting Starlink’s own September 10 hardware post. The cold-reader distinction matters: V5 was already unveiled earlier this summer as a smaller residential kit, and today’s news is the production start, not a fresh speed claim.

Musk’s reply was blunt: “Starlink V5 terminal is in production.” That sat on top of Starlink’s earlier note that the next-generation dish has a smaller form factor, a lighter design, and better power efficiency, with peak speeds up to 375+ Mbps for streaming, video calling, gaming, and more, still listed as available in select areas.

SpaceX first put the V5 kit in public view in mid-July, when the company framed it as the next residential terminal after Standard V4 in a first look at Starlink V5. Official Starlink support copy still pitches the same hardware story: roughly 1.1 kg for the dish, about half the average power draw of V4, and a pipe adapter in the kit, with wider geography tied to how fast production ramps.

What is still missing is a public schedule for when every service area can order V5, or any claim that production alone changes the 375+ Mbps ceiling already posted. For households already on Starlink residential, the practical signal is simpler: the lighter kit is no longer just a catalog tease. Manufacturing is underway, and availability outside today’s select zones will follow that ramp, the same constellation push that also shows up in Tesla’s Cybercab Starlink work.
