Longtime Tesla investor Ron Baron says now is the time to buy Tesla stock, pointing to growing adoption of the company’s Full Self-Driving software.
Speaking during an interview with CNBC, the Baron Capital founder and CEO said Tesla’s FSD technology is starting to gain momentum.

“I think Tesla is the time to buy the stock is now,” Baron said. “All this FSD is is catching on, and it’s going to be bigger and bigger and bigger.”
Baron said roughly 1.4 million people are now using Tesla’s self-driving software and claimed adoption continues to rise among new customers. Current software includes HW4 FSD Supervised v14.3.7 and HW3 FSD Supervised v14.1 Lite via 2026.21.6.
He also shared his own recent experience using FSD in East Hampton, describing how his Model S backed out of his garage, drove to a restaurant and stopped when a duck and six ducklings crossed the road.
“It stopped for the ducks,” Baron said. “This car is unbelievable.”
Baron called the Model S his favourite car and said Tesla’s self-driving technology has changed the way he thinks about driving.
“Everyone’s going to want it,” he said.
Baron has been one of Elon Musk’s most prominent investors for years and has significant exposure to both Tesla and SpaceX.
During the interview, CNBC said Baron Capital holds about $25 billion worth of SpaceX shares and more than $5 billion in Tesla. Baron said his firm has about $30 billion invested across the two companies.
Asked whether he was buying more, Baron said, “that’s enough.”
Baron also disclosed that his personal holdings include about $5 billion in SpaceX and $1.5 billion in Tesla.
He also addressed speculation that SpaceX could eventually acquire or combine with Tesla. Baron said he has discussed the idea with Musk and offered reasons both for and against such a move.
“I said that, you know, I’m not someone who makes the decision, and you’re the guy. And whatever you decide is better is what I’m going to support,” Baron said.
When asked what arguments he gave Musk, Baron replied: “I don’t want to say.”
For now, Baron remains focused on Tesla’s self-driving technology and believes wider adoption could become an increasingly important part of the company’s growth.
“It’s going to be everywhere,” he said.
