Tesla Energy said on September 11, 2026, that eligible customers in Texas can lease two Powerwall home batteries with Tesla Electric for about $35 a month after credits, pitching whole-home backup without a traditional generator.
“Stay powered during outages. Get two Powerwalls for $35/month with Tesla Electric – only in TX for eligible customers,” the company wrote beside a link to its Tesla Electric backup-lease page on tesla.com.
The offer is a lease of two Powerwall units with a one-time $100 order fee, tied to continued enrollment in a qualifying Tesla Electric Virtual Power Plant plan. Tesla says a typical two-Powerwall lease runs about $122 a month in the first year with a 3 percent annual escalator; an $87 monthly credit for the Tesla Electric Backup plan can bring the first-year payment down to about $35 plus tax after installation, permission to operate, and successful enrollment.
Credits keep flowing only while the customer stays on Tesla Electric and meets program rules. Lease availability is limited to select Texas areas with retail electric choice, solar panels are not eligible, and non-standard installs can add cost or affect credit eligibility.
The Texas lease pitch lands days after Tesla Energy highlighted a California Virtual Power Plant event that put roughly 69,000 Powerwalls past 500 megawatts of grid dispatch, and after Cybertruck Powershare with Powerwall 3 extended home backup windows for owners pairing the truck and battery. Whole-home backup, Storm Watch charging ahead of severe weather, and the ability to send stored energy back to the grid when demand is high remain the core Tesla Electric pitch in the app.
