Starlink Free Wi-Fi Starts on Korean Air Flights September 15

Korean Air said on September 11, 2026, that free high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi powered by Starlink will begin on September 15, making the carrier the first full-service airline in East Asia to put SpaceX’s low-Earth-orbit network in the cabin for passengers.

The service opens on four retrofitted jets — three Airbus A350-900s and one Boeing 777-300ER — that will fly mainly on medium- and long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with some shorter routes in the mix. Korean Air plans to expand Starlink across most of its fleet by the end of 2027, while aircraft still waiting on retrofit keep the airline’s existing paid Wi-Fi for now.

Every cabin class gets free access. Passengers switch to airplane mode, join the onboard network at wifi.koreanair.com, enter the name and seat number on their boarding pass in the Korean Air Wi-Fi portal, and watch a short ad, with no separate signup required. The airline says speeds jump enough for OTT streaming, music, online games, messaging, file transfers, and cloud collaboration at near-ground levels, while voice and video calls plus live social streaming stay blocked for cabin comfort and security.

The rollout lands as Korean Air prepares to complete its Asiana Airlines merger in December and push a broader cabin-experience upgrade under the combined carrier. It follows a growing list of airlines wiring Starlink into the cabin, including recent moves such as Austrian Airlines in Vienna and earlier free-Wi-Fi launches like British Airways.

For travelers, the September 15 start turns long-haul Korean Air flights into another Starlink proving ground — free, cabin-wide, and aimed at matching the connectivity people already expect on the ground. Starlink’s Kauai emergency response this week underscored how quickly the network can show up when connectivity matters most.
