Tesla Cybercab Unboxed Process Halves Factory Line Size

Tesla Cybercab Unboxed manufacturing process

Tesla Robotaxi said on September 8, 2026, that its Unboxed manufacturing process for the Cybercab assembles vehicle modules in parallel and frames the car in one step at the end, cutting the production line size in half and unlocking much greater factory capacity.

“Our unboxed process for Cybercab assembles vehicle modules in parallel & frames the car in one step at the end,” the official Robotaxi account wrote, posting a roughly 48-second factory video. “This streamlines automation & reduces the line size by half, unlocking much greater production capacity. The first real revolution in automotive manufacturing in over a century.”

The pitch is a break from the classic body-in-white line: big sections of the vehicle come together off the main path, then snap into a finished structure late in the flow. Tesla has been building toward that Unboxed approach for years as it scales the two-seat, steering-wheel-free Cybercab at Giga Texas, where outbound lots have recently shown more finished units leaving with Starlink modules on the hatch.

That same Austin campus has been the center of the public Cybercab story this week, from Starlink-equipped hatches in the outbound lot to a cabin screen that briefly showed a virtual joystick for manual driving. Overseas, Tesla Japan is also lining up a four-city Cybercab tour starting September 11.

If the Unboxed line really runs at half the footprint with modules built in parallel, the practical payoff is more Cybercabs per square foot of factory—and a clearer path to the volume Tesla needs for robotaxi service beyond the early Austin fleet.
