Tesla: Every Model Y Gets Black Headliner, 16-Inch Touchscreen

The light grey headliner is officially done for the North American Model Y. Tesla has locked in an interior overhaul for its best-selling crossover, and now a dark cabin finish plus an upgraded, higher-res touchscreen come standard on every single one sold in Canada and the U.S.
Tesla confirmed the changes through its official Tesla North America account on X. Per the company, these upgrades aren’t reserved for the pricier trims anymore. That means the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version now gets the same premium interior bits as its more expensive siblings.
Up until now, the online order page only threw the dark ceiling fabric and refreshed hardware into the Premium and Performance trims. That left an awkward gap in the lineup, and plenty of would-be buyers were left wondering whether the base car would keep shipping with the older parts. This update wipes out those differences completely and puts the same look in every Model Y.
Swapping the roof cloth color might sound like a minor cosmetic thing, but it scratches an itch a lot of owners have had for a while. Drivers have long pointed out that a darker ceiling makes the cabin feel more upscale and a bit cozier, and it plays nicely with Tesla’s clean, minimalist interior.
The dashboard hardware is where you’ll actually notice a difference day to day. Tesla ditched the old 15.4-inch display for a bigger 16-inch one. On top of the extra screen size, the new panel is Quad HD (QHD), so the pixel density jumps up. Navigation routes, your apps, and the climate sliders all look noticeably crisper than they did on the old screen.
With the Model Y refresh now fully rolled out, the next question is whether the smaller Model 3 sedan gets the same premium treatment. If recent regulatory filings spotted in China are anything to go by, the compact sedan looks set to lose its lighter roof styling before long too.
