Tesla has officially expanded its unsupervised Robotaxi service to cover the entire Austin metropolitan area, marking a major milestone for the company’s autonomous ride-hailing network.

The expansion, which went live at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, more than doubles the previous operating zone. The newly expanded geofence now includes surrounding areas such as Pflugerville and Manor, and opens up travel on major highways, including Interstate 35.

Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Vice-President of AI Software, confirmed the rollout on X, stating that the unsupervised service is now available across the greater Austin region.

The autonomous service initially launched in Austin on June 22, 2025, using supervised rides with safety drivers. Tesla transitioned to unsupervised rides in limited sections of the city on January 22, 2026. Frequent software updates and an expanding fleet of vehicles have allowed the company to scale up operations to this latest phase.

With this expansion, Austin now ranks as the third-largest unsupervised autonomous driving zone in the United States. Access to the service remains on an invite-only basis as Tesla continues to gather safety data, though no major incidents have been reported in the region since the pilot program began.
