Tesla has added a new official accessory to its online shop in China, introducing a manual retractable sunshade specifically designed for the Model Y. The new product is scheduled to officially go on sale on June 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM local time.
Priced at 1,499 RMB ($221 USD), the accessory aims to give drivers an easy way to switch between open sunlight and full sun protection. According to the product description, the sunshade features a roller-type design built into an integrated frame, which helps keep operation quiet and smooth. Tesla used the same fabric as the vehicle’s original headliner alongside a metallic handle to ensure it blends seamlessly into the existing minimalist interior.
Of course there’s cheaper third-party sunshades, but some people want an official version from Tesla and this one fits the bill.
Safety was also a factor in development, with Tesla noting that the sunshade has undergone full-vehicle airbag deployment testing and multiple road tests to ensure it does not interfere with safety systems.
The product package includes the manual retractable sunshade, an installation tool, and four screw caps. However, Tesla points out that because of the large size of the sunshade, it recommends having two people present for the installation process. Owners can also contact a Tesla service center for professional installation, though additional labor costs will apply.
Potential buyers should note the specific compatibility requirement listed on the store page: this sunshade is only applicable to Model Y vehicles manufactured in February 2025 and later.
