Tesla Launches Remote Meter to Simplify Home Charging

Tesla has released a new Remote Meter designed to help homeowners install a Wall Connector without the need for expensive electrical service upgrades.

The device costs $210 US ($285 CAD) and enables a feature called Dynamic Power Management. This technology monitors the total power usage of a home in real time. If the house begins to draw a lot of electricity—for example, if a clothes dryer and air conditioner are running simultaneously—the Remote Meter signals the Wall Connector to reduce the charging speed. When the home’s power demand drops, the charging rate automatically increases to the fastest possible level.

This setup is particularly useful for older homes with limited electrical panels. Instead of paying thousands of dollars to an electric utility for a service upgrade, owners can use the meter to safely manage the existing power load.

The Tesla Remote Meter is compatible with both the standard Gen 3 Wall Connector and the Universal Wall Connector. The kit includes the meter itself, two 200 A current transformers, a voltage cable, and an antenna for connectivity.

Tesla recommends that customers consult with an electrician before purchasing, as many modern homes may not require the device. Installation should be handled by a professional, such as a Tesla Certified Installer, to ensure the load management system is configured correctly.
