Elon Musk Merges xAI Into SpaceX to Create New ‘SpaceXAI’ Brand
Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, will be dissolved as a standalone company and integrated directly into SpaceX. The move will rebrand the division’s output as SpaceXAI, housing all AI-related products under the aerospace manufacturer’s corporate umbrella.
The announcement coincided with a new partnership between the space firm and Anthropic. Under the agreement, Anthropic will gain access to the Colossus 1 supercomputer to bolster capacity for its Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers.
The integration signals a shift in how Musk’s various ventures collaborate on high-end computing power. By bringing xAI into SpaceX, the company aims to streamline the development of AI products, though it remains to be seen how current consumer-facing tools like the chatbot Grok will be positioned within a company primarily focused on orbital launches and satellite internet.
This consolidation follows the rapid scaling of the Colossus cluster, which has quickly become one of the most powerful AI training environments in the world.
“By way of background for those who care, I spent a lot of time last week with senior members of the Anthropic team to understand what they do to ensure Claude is good for humanity and was impressed. Everyone I met was highly competent and cared a great deal about doing the right thing. No one set off my evil detector. So long as they engage in critical self-examination, Claude will probably be good,” said Musk yesterday.
“After that, I was ok leasing Colossus 1 to Anthropic, as SpaceXAI had already moved training to Colossus 2,” said Musk.
SpaceX has reportedly filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) targeting a record-shattering valuation of up to $1.75 trillion, with shares expected to begin trading as early as late June or July 2026.
