Tesla Aims for Q4 Unsupervised FSD Release to Customers

Tesla CEO Elon Musk provided a tentative timeline for the release of unsupervised Full Self-Driving during the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call, suggesting a launch could happen late this year. When asked when the technology would reach customer cars, Musk stated, “I’m just guessing here, but probably in the, Fourth quarter.”

The company intends to avoid a broad release, opting instead for a phased approach based on regional safety data. Musk explained that “it’s, it’s difficult to release this like to everyone everywhere all at once” because the company wants to ensure there are no “unique situations in a city” that could lead to issues. He specifically noted that they are looking at “particularly complex intersection” areas or places with “bad road markings” and “weather challenges.”

The rollout will be governed by data from specific locations to ensure the software is ready for local complexities. Musk noted that “we would release, unsupervised gradually to the customer fleet” only “as we feel like a particular geography is confirmed to be safe.” This strategy prioritizes avoiding “unsafe intersections” where people tend to get into accidents before expanding the service to the wider fleet.
