Tesla Planning Private Robotaxi Charging Hubs in Arizona
Tesla is moving forward with infrastructure for its autonomous fleet, filing pre-permits for large-scale charging sites in the Phoenix East Valley. According to documents discovered by MarcoRP, the electric car maker is planning to build dozens of chargers that will be closed to the general public.
Dedicated Hub in Chandler
The primary filing involves an industrial plot of land on S Roosevelt Ave in Chandler. Tesla has proposed the installation of 56 V4 charging stalls at this location. Unlike standard Supercharger stations that allow any Tesla owner to plug in, this application explicitly states that the chargers will not be for public use. So what would this be for then?
The scale of the project suggests a dedicated depot designed to service a high volume of vehicles, likely a fleet of Cybercabs or autonomous Robotaxis.
Expansion into Mesa
The buildout appears to be part of a larger regional strategy. On the same day the Chandler permits were filed, Tesla submitted a draft for another proposed location in the city of Mesa. This second site is also situated in an industrial area on the east side of the city and is similarly listed for private use.
Why It Matters
By building private high-capacity depots instead of public stations, Tesla is creating the necessary “unsexy” infrastructure to manage a commercial fleet. These sites allow for centralized cleaning, maintenance, and rapid charging of autonomous cars without impacting theroboexisting public Supercharger network.
While public charging wait times can fluctuate, these dedicated stalls ensure that a Robotaxi fleet can maintain high utilization and quick turnaround times in one of the most popular testing grounds for autonomous driving in North America.
