Tesla has officially expanded its unsupervised Robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston, marking a significant step in the company’s autonomous driving ambitions. The rollout uses Model Y vehicles equipped with the latest Full Self-Driving software to navigate city streets without a safety driver behind the wheel.

Texas Expansion Details

The service is currently operating in geofenced areas, starting with roughly 30 square miles in Dallas and between 12 to 25 square miles in Houston. This expansion follows a successful trial period in Austin, where the company maintained an incident-free record.

Tesla is currently using a modest fleet of approximately 15 vehicles across these three Texas cities. The goal is to gather real-world data and refine the software before launching in other major markets, including Phoenix and Miami, which are targeted for mid-year.

Elon Musk took to X to promote the launch, simply telling his followers to “Try Tesla Robotaxi in Dallas & Houston!” The official Tesla Robotaxi account also shared footage of the vehicles operating autonomously.

Here’s a video of an unsupervised ride in Houston:

Tesla AI lead Ashok Elluswamy confirmed the expansion is part of a broader effort to scale the technology. As the fleet grows, Tesla expects the software to learn from these edge cases to improve safety and reliability.

This is a sweet expansion of Tesla’s Robotaxi network. Can you imagine once Cybercabs start roaming the streets as Robotaxis?
