Tesla Model Y RWD Delays: Canadian March Orders Now Pushed to July 2026
Canadian Tesla buyers who jumped on the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) this month are facing a major reality check as delivery timelines explode. What started as a promised four-to-six-week wait has rapidly shifted into a mid-summer arrival for many.
The most dramatic shifts are hitting those who ordered in mid-to-late March. One buyer in the Greater Toronto Area who placed their order on March 24 saw their original April estimate disappear, replaced by a new delivery date of July 2026. Similar stories are surfacing across British Columbia, with orders from March 19 and March 20 also getting bumped to July.
Even those who acted earlier in the month aren’t entirely in the clear. A buyer who placed an order on March 13 in Ontario reported their window being pushed to late May or early June, while another who ordered on March 7 in Vancouver is also staring down a July date.
The backlog seems to be a direct result of a massive surge in demand. Reports from local delivery centres suggest staff are “the busiest they’ve been in years,” with some locations processing over 150 cars in a single day.
While a lucky few who ordered in early March or mid-February are finally seeing VINs assigned for late April or May, the general trend for the popular RWD trim is a much longer wait than initially promised. For those hoping to have their new EV for the start of spring, the July 2026 timeline is a tough pill to swallow, though veteran owners note it’s still faster than the eight-month waits seen during the pandemic.
The order surge is likely attributed to the Model Y Standard now qualifying for the new $5,000 federal rebate, which also can be bundled with provincial rebates (such as $2,000 in Quebec).
