Elon Musk Moves Roadster Reveal to Late April: Will the ‘Flying Car’ Actually Fly?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again shifted the timeline for the long-awaited second-generation Roadster, hinting at a new reveal date following years of delays.

During a wide-ranging interview on The Joe Rogan Experience in late 2025, Musk told Rogan that the company was “getting close” to a prototype demonstration. At the time, he claimed the event would take place before the end of 2025, promising it would be “the most memorable product unveil ever” and comparing the vehicle’s technology to something crazier than a James Bond car. Musk even teased the possibility of the car being able to “fly” or hover using SpaceX-inspired thrusters.

However, the end-of-year deadline passed without a reveal. On Tuesday, Musk updated followers on X, confirming that the new Roadster unveil is now “probably in late April” 2026. This latest target follows a previous suggestion from November 2025, where he jokingly proposed an April 1 debut to give himself “deniability” if it were delayed again.

In a follow-up post today, Musk said, “new Roadster unveil hopefully next month. It will be a banger next-level.” Emphasis on now “hopefully”. So there might be another delay if we don’t see anything in April.

The Roadster was first announced in 2017 with an original production target of 2020. Since then, it has faced constant setbacks as Tesla prioritized the Model 3 and Cybertruck. While a demo is now slated for next month, mass production isn’t expected to begin until mid-to-late 2027, roughly 12 to 18 months after the official unveiling.

Despite the nearly decade-long wait, Tesla continues to accept reservations for the high-end sports car, which requires a $50,000 deposit for the base model and a full $250,000 payment for the limited Founders Series.
