Qatar Airways Quietly Becomes Starlink’s Biggest Airline

Starlink Wi-Fi is now available across more than half of Qatar Airways’ global fleet, marking a major milestone for both the airline and SpaceX’s rapidly expanding aviation connectivity business.
According to details shared by longtime SpaceX and Tesla watcher @SERobinsonJr, Qatar Airways now operates the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped widebody fleet, with nearly 120 aircraft outfitted as of January 2026. The airline completed Starlink installations on its entire Boeing 777 fleet in just nine months, and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months. Qatar Airways has also begun rolling out Starlink on its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with three already operational and more currently in progress.
Qatar Airways says it has connected over 11 million global passengers with what the carrier calls the “fastest Wi-Fi in the sky.” In total, more than 58% of Qatar Airways’ fleet is now equipped with Starlink, making it the clear leader in deploying SpaceX’s satellite-powered in-flight Wi-Fi at scale. Certifications are already in place for the Boeing 777-300ER, 777-200LR, 787-8, A350-900, and A350-1000, allowing Starlink coverage across routes spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, and most destinations in Australia.
Qatar Airways first announced plans to bring free Starlink Wi-Fi to its flights back in May 2024, instantly becoming the largest airline partner for Starlink at the time. Since then, the carrier has steadily expanded the service, even launching Starlink-powered live sports streaming onboard last summer — something that was previously unthinkable on long-haul flights.
The rollout comes as Starlink gains serious momentum across the aviation industry. Roughly 23 airlines worldwide have now announced Starlink partnerships, including United Airlines, British Airways, Air France, WestJet, Alaska Airlines, Emirates, airBaltic, and multiple International Airlines Group carriers such as Aer Lingus and Iberia. Several of these airlines plan full fleet rollouts starting this year, while others are accelerating deployments following successful pilot programs.
Recent announcements from Emirates and flydubai, in particular, underscore just how quickly Starlink is becoming the gold standard for in-flight connectivity. Alaska Airlines, meanwhile, recently confirmed it would fast-track Starlink installations across its entire fleet after overwhelmingly positive passenger feedback.
With Qatar Airways now past the halfway mark, Starlink’s promise of fast, free, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi at 35,000 feet is no longer theoretical — it’s quickly becoming the new normal.
