Tesla Model Y Outsells Every Car Brand Ever in Norway

According to fresh registration data highlighted this week, Tesla has now sold more Model Y vehicles in Norway in 2025 than any single automaker has ever sold across its entire lineup in the country over a full year. Yes — one model, from one brand, outperforming every combined model lineup from any automaker in Norwegian history.

The staggering achievement was underscored by Tesla Europe on X, noting that “more Tesla Model Ys have been registered in Norway in 2025 than have ever been registered by one brand with all models combined.” The post added, “Still breaking records in Norway. Tusen takk Norge (igjen!),” a nod to the country’s continued embrace of Tesla.

Local Norwegian media echoed the sentiment, reporting that registrations have surged sharply heading into the Christmas season, with record after record falling as buyers rush to lock in deliveries before year-end. The frenzy has been strong enough that a new national record is effectively being set in real time.

This latest milestone builds on what has already been a historic year for Tesla in Norway. Just last month, the company shattered one of the country’s longest-standing automotive records, surpassing Volkswagen’s 2016 benchmark of 26,575 vehicles sold in a single year with more than a month still left on the calendar. Now, it looks like the Model Y alone has eclipsed Volkswagen’s entire brand record. Despite offering only two high-volume models, the Model 3 and Model Y, Tesla commanded roughly 19% market share in November, meaning nearly one in five new car buyers chose a Tesla.

The Model Y, in particular, has become an unstoppable force in the Norwegian market. It topped national sales charts as recently as September with close to a 30% market share, and earlier this fall it overtook the Nissan Leaf to become Norway’s best-selling EV of all time. That kind of momentum has continued through the end of the year, even as Tesla faces softer demand and headwinds across other European markets.

Norway remains a unique outlier. With strong EV incentives, near-universal charging infrastructure, and a consumer base that has fully embraced electric vehicles, the country has effectively become Tesla’s strongest proving ground anywhere in the world. While Tesla’s broader European sales have cooled, Norway continues to buck the trend — delivering record-breaking results almost month after month.

Selling more units of a single model than any automaker has ever sold across its entire lineup isn’t just a fun stat — it’s a sign of how deeply entrenched Tesla, and specifically the Model Y, has become in Norway’s car market. At this point, the bigger question may not be how many records Tesla can still break in Norway, but whether any brand will ever come close to matching this one.
