Tesla Kicks Off Model Y Performance Production at Giga Texas Ahead of U.S. Deliveries

Tesla has officially begun producing the refreshed Model Y Performance at Giga Texas for the first time, according to longtime factory watcher Joe Tegtmeyer (@JoeTegtmeyer) on X. Until now, previous versions of the Performance variant were only built at Tesla’s Fremont factory for the U.S. market. With this move, all global versions of the Model Y — except the China-only Y L — are now assembled at Giga Texas.
The milestone comes shortly after Tesla launched the refreshed Model Y Performance in the U.S. in late September, just hours before the $7,500 federal EV tax credit expired. Early buyers who secured orders before the deadline are still eligible to claim the full credit upon delivery. Tesla initially pegged customer deliveries to begin in December, but they could now start within the next couple of weeks as Texas-built units roll off the production line.

The updated Model Y Performance packs a 0–60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds, a 155 mph top speed, and an EPA-estimated 306 miles of range. Tesla has refined both form and function for the new model, introducing redesigned front and rear fascias, a carbon fiber spoiler for added downforce, and new staggered 21-inch Arachnid wheels that boost grip and handling.

Inside, the SUV gains new sport seating with heated and ventilated front seats, power-reclining heated rear seats, and improved bolstering with powered thigh support. Tesla has also enhanced cabin quietness through improved insulation and acoustic glass, while the 16-inch central touchscreen remains the focal point of the minimalist interior. Other upgrades include adaptive damping for a smoother ride, new drive modes for enhanced control at higher speeds, and higher-capacity battery cells.
The Model Y Performance also supports FSD (Supervised) for semi-autonomous driving. The vehicle starts at $57,490 USD, with paint options and a tow hitch included — saving buyers up to $2,000 compared to before.
Tesla previously launched the refreshed Model Y Performance in Europe earlier this year, with first deliveries going out in September. Now, it appears the U.S. version is only days away from reaching early customers.
