Tesla has expanded its Bay Area Robotaxi ride-hailing service to include San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC), allowing passengers to request rides directly to and from the airport using the company’s app-based system.

In a post on X, the official Tesla AI account (@Tesla_AI) confirmed the update, writing: “Our Bay Area ride-hailing service now goes to SJC airport.” The new functionality arrives with version 25.10.5 of the Robotaxi app, which introduces precise terminal pick-up and drop-off options at SJC through an updated airline and terminal picker.

Inside the app, the redesigned airline selector interface allows passengers to choose their specific airline and terminal for more accurate routing within the airport. There’s even a dedicated “Autonomous Vehicle Rideshare” lane at Terminal B for streamlined pick-ups and drop-offs.

This marks the latest expansion of Tesla’s Robotaxi operations in California’s Bay Area, where the company currently runs its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) fleet with safety monitors seated behind the wheel, in compliance with state regulations. That setup differs from Tesla’s Austin pilot, which has been operating since July and places a safety monitor only in the passenger seat, with no one behind the wheel.

Last month, reports indicated that Tesla was in talks to bring Robotaxi service to Bay Area airports, and today’s rollout appears to be the first step in that plan. The move follows several recent updates to the Robotaxi ecosystem, including dynamic gold visualizations that change with driving speed and the addition of live traffic data and new low-battery notifications in the app.

Tesla is targeting Robotaxi operations in several other states, with ongoing testing in Arizona and recent regulatory approval to begin trials in Nevada. Meanwhile, CEO Elon Musk has said that Tesla plans to remove safety monitors from its fleet entirely by the end of 2025.

As the Robotaxi network continues to expand, the addition of airport routes represents a key milestone for Tesla’s growing autonomous ride-hailing ambitions.
