Tesla has officially begun deliveries of its new entry-level Model Y Standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in the U.S. The milestone marks the first wave of customer handovers for the more affordable Model Y variant that Tesla launched earlier this month.
Among the first customers invited to take delivery was content creator and accessory maker @teslabros, who shared that while they weren’t able to complete their handover on Monday due to firmware issues, Tesla still allowed them to film the process.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to take delivery today. Firmware issues but they still let us shoot so plenty videos coming out tonight,” they said, teasing detailed coverage of their new vehicle. They have since scheduled another appointment for the actual delivery.
In a YouTube video documenting their initial delivery appointment, @teslabros noted the subtle but important differences between the Model Y Standard and its higher-end counterparts, from changes to trunk design and interior materials to charging gear and customization options. This launch comes just a few days after Model Y Standard production was confirmed to be in full swing at Giga Texas. The automaker first introduced the entry-level Model Y Standard RWD in the U.S. earlier this month alongside the cheaper Model 3 Standard. Days later, Tesla expanded availability to Europe, where deliveries from Gigafactory Berlin are expected to begin next month.
The Model Y Standard offers up to 321 miles of EPA-rated range, a 125 mph top speed, and a 0–60 mph time of 6.8 seconds. Despite its lower cost, Tesla says the vehicle maintains its hallmark safety and efficiency standards, powered by its latest HW4 hardware.
To help bring the price down, Tesla removed some premium features found in higher trims. The Model Y Standard features a manual-adjust steering wheel and second-row seats, no ventilated or heated rear seats, and no rear passenger touchscreen. Perhaps most notably, it replaces the panoramic glass roof with a fabric headliner.
