Tesla Cybertruck Police Fleet Officially Rolls Out in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is gearing up to officially deploy its new fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks for patrol duty along the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and surrounding areas.

The department will roll out 10 customized Cybertrucks, donated earlier this year by venture capitalist Ben Horowitz and his wife Felicia. The all-electric trucks were upfitted by California-based company UP.FIT — a division of Unplugged Performance — which specializes in converting Teslas for fleet and emergency use. Each vehicle features reinforced armor, bullet-resistant protection, and advanced onboard technology to improve officer safety and operational effectiveness.

“We want these things because the cops inside will be safe no matter what. These stop bullets. They are also a tremendous recruitment tool for us,” said LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill. The department has even launched a new marketing campaign featuring the futuristic trucks to help attract new recruits, including a wraparound ad displayed on buses near the Las Vegas airport. “Next level police recruiting!” UP.FIT CEO Ben Schaffer said on X, sharing an image of the campaign.

The newly deployed Cybertrucks are now operational following several months of testing and public demonstrations. The LVMPD first announced the donation back in February, noting that no taxpayer money was used. With this deployment, Las Vegas becomes the first U.S. city to put a full Cybertruck fleet into law enforcement service.

The police edition Cybertrucks are outfitted specifically for patrol and SWAT use, though Tesla also offers its own Armor Package for civilian buyers that enhances the vehicle’s durability and off-road performance.

Beyond the U.S., other law enforcement agencies are also embracing Tesla’s futuristic pickup. Back in August, the Jalisco State Police in Mexico added three Cybertrucks to their patrol fleet, which will serve as mobile intelligence units ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As for the Cybertruck’s growing cultural presence, even Tesla’s official @Cybertruck account joked about the rollout on X, posting, “Does that technically make me Robocop?” Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the tweet, saying, “Pretty much.”
