Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla’s broader public release of Full Self-Driving (FSD) 14 will come with version 14.2.

Responding to an early FSD tester on X who praised version 14.1.2 for fixing “95% of the indecisive lane changes and braking,” Musk simply replied, “14.2 for widespread use.” The exchange effectively confirms that the company plans to reserve the full public rollout of FSD 14 for version 14.2, which is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

The confirmation comes just days after Tesla began rolling out FSD (Supervised) version 14.1.2 to early access testers and some lucky Tesla owners. The update introduced a new “Mad Max” speed profile and fine-tuned several issues that testers reported in earlier builds, including random braking and system hesitancy.

FSD 14 officially debuted last week with version 14.1, which represented one of the most substantial leaps for Tesla’s driver-assistance suite in recent memory. Early testers said FSD 14.1 delivered smoother, more human-like driving behavior with better decision-making in complex traffic scenarios, though some still noted occasional abrupt braking.

Musk previously teased that FSD versions 14.2 and 14.3 would bring more dramatic upgrades, even saying the upcoming versions would make the system “feel almost like it is sentient.” With version 14.2 now also set to usher in a wider release, drivers may soon get to experience Tesla’s most advanced iteration of FSD yet.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is also expected to receive complete FSD capabilities with version 14, with the company’s AI chief recently confirming that rollout could begin sometime this month.

As FSD (Supervised) continues to evolve, Tesla’s cadence of rapid software iterations underscores the company’s confidence in its end-to-end neural network architecture and its push toward a truly autonomous driving experience.
