Tesla’s Cheaper Model Y Standard Spotted in Canada for the First Time

Tesla’s new entry-level Model Y Standard has been spotted in Vancouver, suggesting that the automaker could soon launch the cheaper variant in Canada. Over the weekend, a Reddit user shared photos of the vehicle, wrapped in camouflage, at a Vancouver Supercharger.
This sighting comes shortly after Tesla introduced the new Model Y Standard in the U.S. last week, alongside the cheaper Model 3 Standard. Just days later, the company expanded the availability of the Model Y Standard to Europe. Deliveries in both markets are set to begin in the coming weeks.
Since the Model Y Standard for Europe is being built at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany, and Tesla recently began importing all Model Y units for the Canadian market from that same facility to offset recent tariffs on U.S. imports, we previously speculated that a Canadian launch could be right around the corner. Now, it looks like that may be the case.

Tesla’s decision to shift Canadian supply to Berlin came in response to new tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles, which forced the company to raise prices significantly across its lineup in Canada. The move led to a drop in domestic demand. A lower-cost Model Y could help restore some of that lost momentum — especially as the Model 3, which Tesla imports from the U.S., currently costs more than the Model Y in Canada.
According to Tesla’s European specs, the new Model Y Standard offers up to 534 km of WLTP-rated range, a top speed of 201 km/h, and a 0–100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds. Despite being the most affordable Model Y variant, it maintains Tesla’s high standards for safety, efficiency, and performance, powered by the company’s latest HW4 hardware.

To bring the price down, Tesla made several design changes to the Model Y Standard. It features a manual-adjust steering wheel and second-row seats, lacks ventilated and heated rear seats, and omits the rear passenger touchscreen. Tesla also replaced the panoramic glass roof found in trims with a fabric headliner.
A Canadian debut for the Model Y Standard now seems increasingly likely — and with the vehicle already being produced in Berlin for export markets, an announcement could be imminent.
