Tesla’s Refreshed Model Y Performance Gets Reviewed by Top Gear [VIDEO]

BBC’s Top Gear has published its first video review of Tesla’s refreshed Model Y Performance, which launched late last month in Europe and has since expanded to Australia and New Zealand.

The review highlights Tesla’s incremental yet meaningful upgrades that set this new Performance trim apart from its predecessor. On the outside, the refreshed Model Y Performance features redesigned front and rear fascias, a deeper front splitter, and a carbon fiber rear spoiler that, combined, improve aerodynamics by reducing drag by 10% and lift by 64%. The model also rides on new 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 forged alloy wheels, with wider rears for better traction.

Under the hood, the SUV gains Tesla’s latest high-density 79 kWh battery pack, borrowed from the Model 3 Performance. This allows for up to 308 miles of EPA-estimated range while still delivering supercar-like acceleration — 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and a 155 mph top speed.

Top Gear notes that the new adaptive suspension system is a major step forward, offering both improved ride comfort and sharper dynamics when pushed. Steering precision, upgraded dampers, and reinforced rear suspension components help the Model Y feel more composed, even if its weight is still noticeable in aggressive driving.

Inside, Tesla has added sport seats with powered thigh extenders, carbon fiber trim accents, and its upgraded 16-inch QHD central display with a sharper resolution. Acoustic glass and enhanced soundproofing also contribute to a more refined, quieter ride experience.

Ultimately, Top Gear praises the Model Y Performance for being exceptionally quick and surprisingly refined, calling it “class-leading” in its segment. However, the outlet concludes that the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version may be the smarter buy. While the Performance trim delivers blistering speed, its price premium over the already capable Long Range doesn’t necessarily offer enough value for most buyers.

Tesla started producing the refreshed Model Y Performance at Gigafactory Berlin around the beginning of September. Just a couple of weeks later, the company was preparing to kick off deliveries of the new “Juniper” Model Y Performance, with ready-to-deliver units landing at European sales and delivery centers.
