Tesla Model Y Overtakes Nissan Leaf as Norway’s Best-Selling EV

The Tesla Model Y has officially overtaken the Nissan Leaf to become Norway’s all-time best-selling electric vehicle. According to registration data from Elbil Statistikk, the Model Y has now sold 81,334 units in the country, edging past the Leaf’s lifetime tally of 81,229.
What makes this milestone especially impressive is how quickly it happened. The Model Y only launched in Norway four years ago, while the Leaf has been on sale in the country for 14 years. With nearly a million EVs now registered across Norway, the Model Y has cemented its position at the top of the leaderboard.
Norway has long been a global leader in EV adoption, with generous incentives and infrastructure investments helping electric cars dominate new vehicle sales. The Model Y has ridden that wave of demand, thanks to its practicality, range, and Tesla’s vast Supercharger network.
The Model Y’s momentum isn’t limited to Norway. In recent months, the SUV has been driving record-breaking sales for Tesla in South Korea, now the company’s third-largest market. Tesla set a new sales record in the country in July, only to break it again in August, with the Model Y leading the charge both times.
Recognition has also followed. U.S. automotive publication Edmunds this week named the refreshed Model Y the best car of 2025, praising its improved ride quality, cabin refinement, and overall performance.
As Tesla ramps up production of the refreshed Model Y in Europe and elsewhere, the SUV’s role as the company’s most important vehicle only looks set to grow — with Norway serving as the latest proof point of its dominance.
