Tesla Autopark Activated at Home With DIY Duct Tape Lines [VIDEO]

A new video is making the rounds showing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software being tricked into thinking there’s a parking spot in a residential driveway using nothing more than white duct tape, allowing for the use of the Autopark feature.

The clip, uploaded to YouTube by Tesla owner Emmanuel Huna, shows strips of tape laid down to mimic parking lot lines. When tested with a 2024 Cybertruck and a 2024 Model Y, both running FSD version 13.2.8 on Hardware 4 (AI4), Autopark was successfully triggered in the driveway. However, a 2018 Model 3 equipped with Hardware 3 and FSD 12.6.4 failed to recognize the DIY parking space. Further testing would be needed to determine whether the issue lies in the Model 3’s older hardware or simply its lack of the latest FSD 13 software.

Autopark is an advanced driver-assistance feature that lets your Tesla automatically maneuver into parallel or perpendicular parking spaces on public roads as you drive slowly past them. It comes bundled with either Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) or FSD (Supervised).

The experiment highlights just how human-like Tesla’s AI is becoming. Last month, another demo showed FSD stopping at a park toll booth with no physical gate, waiting until passengers completed their payment, and then driving off naturally, just like a human driver would.

Tesla is already preparing its next big leap. The company is internally testing FSD 14, which CEO Elon Musk has hyped as the second biggest update ever after version 12. He recently said FSD 14 “feels sentient” and will be two to three times safer and better than a human driver. If testing stays on track, Tesla could begin rolling out the update as soon as next month.
