Tesla Cybertruck Secures 5-Star NHTSA Safety Ratings for Driver and Passenger

Tesla’s Cybertruck has officially added another pair of safety accolades to its name. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has now awarded the electric truck five-star ratings for both the driver and passenger in independent crash test scores, on top of the overall five-star rating it received earlier this year.
Back in February, the Cybertruck impressed regulators by scoring a five-star overall safety rating following rigorous NHTSA testing. At the time, the truck demonstrated strong performance in frontal crash scenarios, earning five stars for the driver and four stars for the front passenger. Side-impact testing was another highlight, with the Cybertruck securing a perfect five-star rating for both the front and rear seats in barrier and pole crash tests. The truck also earned four stars in rollover resistance, with a measured rollover risk of 12.4%, while avoiding a tip in the dynamic rollover test.
Now, with independent five-star scores for both driver and passenger confirmed, Tesla can officially say the Cybertruck stands alongside the Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y, all of which have earned the NHTSA’s highest safety distinctions across categories. The achievement further validates Tesla’s claims around the structural safety of the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exoskeleton, which had previously drawn skepticism.
On top of federal crash testing, the Cybertruck also recently had a strong showing in crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with the organization’s full safety report expected in the coming weeks.
For now, Tesla’s angular electric pickup not only continues to turn heads on the road but also cements itself as one of the safest vehicles in its class.
