Tesla Cybertrucks Join Jalisco Police Force for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Jalisco State Police have added three Tesla Cybertrucks to their patrol fleet, with plans to use the all-electric pickups as mobile intelligence units to strengthen security across the Mexican state ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to a report from The Economic Times, the Cybertrucks were acquired back in May as part of a broader government investment of 988 million pesos (around $60 million) to bolster Jalisco’s security department. The investment included over 690 vehicles, with the Cybertrucks standing out as the most advanced additions. The trucks were leased for 36 months following a public bidding process, per a statement from the Jalisco government.

Jalisco State Governor Pablo Lemus defended the purchase earlier this year, pointing to the need for modern, technology-equipped patrol units that can improve safety in the lead-up to the World Cup, which Mexico will co-host alongside the U.S. and Canada in 2026.

This isn’t the first time Tesla’s polarizing pickup has been tapped for law enforcement. A little over a year ago, aftermarket upgrades specialist Unplugged Performance revealed the world’s first Tesla Cybertruck designed for police duty. Earlier this year, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) also received 10 Cybertrucks for its fleet to use for both patrol and SWAT operations.

Tesla continues to expand the truck’s capabilities as well. Just last week, the company launched an Armor Package for the Cybertruck, designed to enhance off-road performance while adding further durability.

With Jalisco’s Cybertrucks now officially on the streets, the vehicles will play a high-profile role in ensuring public safety as the state prepares for the massive influx of international visitors expected for the World Cup.
