Tesla Model Y Named IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for 2025

Tesla’s refreshed Model Y has once again earned top marks for safety — this time taking home the 2025 Top Safety Pick+ award, the highest possible rating from the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Shared by Tesla on its official Weibo account and celebrated by CEO Elon Musk himself, this latest recognition marks the seventh year in a row that a Tesla vehicle has received the IIHS’s top honor. “Model Y rated highest in safety,” Musk said in a post on X.
The award adds to a long list of international safety accolades the Model Y has picked up across over 20 rigorous crash and safety tests conducted by globally recognized agencies. In addition to the IIHS, the Model Y has earned five-star safety ratings from:
- C-IASI (China Insurance Automotive Safety Index)
- ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program)
- NHTSA (U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
- Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme)
According to Tesla’s promotional material, the Model Y consistently scored full marks in areas such as occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies. The company proudly described the vehicle’s performance as achieving “五星安全大满贯,” or a “five-star safety grand slam.”
Model Y’s consistent safety performance speaks not only to Tesla’s engineering rigor but also to the brand’s ongoing commitment to improving active and passive safety systems through both design and over-the-air software updates.
With the latest IIHS rating now confirmed, the Model Y strengthens its position as one of the safest electric vehicles on the market globally — whether you’re in North America, Europe, Australia, or China.
The IIHS also recently crash-tested Tesla’s all-electric Cybertruck, with footage of the test showing the vehicle performing impressively. However, the organization has yet to release its full safety report.
