Tesla has teamed up with U.S. solar giant Sunrun to launch a new home energy solution exclusively for Texans. The “Tesla Electric + Sunrun Flex” plan bundles clean solar energy, backup power, and fixed electricity rates into a single offering designed to cut costs and boost resilience during outages.
Billed as the first-of-its-kind clean energy plan in Texas, the Tesla Electric + Sunrun Flex plan combines Sunrun’s solar and storage solutions with Tesla Electric’s low, fixed-rate electricity. The result is a comprehensive energy service that shields customers from blackouts and volatile electricity prices — two major concerns for Texans after recent grid instability.
The plan is available only to customers who install Sunrun’s new Flex system — an intelligent solar and storage setup that includes Tesla’s Powerwall. The Flex system installs enough solar and battery capacity to cover not just current but future energy needs, with a flexible pricing model that lets homeowners scale up usage over time without hardware upgrades.
Eligible customers receive backup power from the Powerwall, pay a single fixed rate for imported electricity, and earn sellback credits for any excess energy exported back to the grid. The plan also includes a one-time welcome credit.
Tesla Electric, which launched in Texas in 2022, is available only to Powerwall users. Sunrun Flex customers who enroll in the new plan will receive two separate bills — one from Sunrun for the solar system, and another from Tesla for electricity usage.
The Tesla Electric + Sunrun Flex plan is available to homeowners in Texas who reside in retail choice areas and meet installation and interconnection requirements. With solar sellback credits, robust backup, and predictable pricing, the partnership could become a compelling alternative to traditional utility plans — especially as energy independence gains traction across the Lone Star State.
