Apple Maps to Support Tesla’s NACS in Next Update

Apple Maps will soon support Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) in a future software update.

That’s according to code discovered by developer @aaronp613 that mentions “Tesla NACS” numerous times. Earlier today iOS 18.4 beta 2 was released for developers.

“A future iOS 18.4 beta will add support for NACS in Apple Maps for electric vehicles”, noted Aaron on Monday.

New code suggests that Apple Maps or CarPlay might soon display alerts related to Tesla’s NACS charging adapter. The code contains phrases like “Tesla NACS Adapter Required” and “Charging adapter required on this route,” indicating that iOS could warn drivers when they need a NACS adapter to charge their EV at certain stations.

This would be particularly useful for non-Tesla EV owners navigating to Tesla Superchargers that require an adapter. Additionally, a voice alert appears to be included, ensuring drivers get the message while on the road. This suggests Apple is enhancing EV routing with smarter charging guidance.

Most Tesla Superchargers nowadays include a Magic Dock built in, allowing both Tesla vehicles and non-Teslas to charge. These future alerts in Apple Maps and CarPlay look to better alert drivers of NACS chargers where adapters may not be included.
