Tesla has reached a settlement in a lawsuit stemming from a 2018 crash that resulted in the death of Apple engineer Walter Huang.
The incident, involving Huang’s Tesla Model X operating on Autopilot, collided with a highway barrier. The lawsuit was set for trial this week in California Superior Court, potentially spotlighting Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.
Details of the settlement remain undisclosed, and approval by a judge is pending, reports the BBC.
Before the agreement, Tesla maintained that Huang had misused the Autopilot system by playing a video game moments before the crash. The company has successfully defended similar cases in California, attributing accidents to drivers’ failure to adhere to guidelines for system use.
Tesla announced earlier this month it will be revealing its Robotaxi later on August 8, 2024. The company’s latest version of FSD is 12.3.3, currently available for a free one-month trial for most owners.
