Tesla Requires $1,000 Deposit for Cybertruck Order Conversion

Cybertruck early access deposit

Tesla has introduced a new policy for Cybertruck reservation holders effective December 12, 2023.

In a move to streamline the order process and filter out non-committed buyers, the company now requires a non-refundable $1,000 early access deposit to convert existing reservations into actual orders. This deposit will be credited to the final purchase price upon the vehicle’s delivery (via @SawyerMerritt).

The policy comes into effect once a reservation holder receives an invitation email from Tesla to proceed with their order. This email prompts the holder to select their desired configuration and proceed with placing their order. It’s important to note that the $1,000 deposit is only applicable when Tesla invites the reservation holder to configure their vehicle and they decide to move forward with the order.

Tesla’s decision to implement this deposit appears to be a strategy to identify and prioritize serious buyers. The company’s shift from a $250 deposit to a heftier $1,000 sum is indicative of a high demand for the Cybertruck. This approach aims to ensure that those who are genuinely interested and ready to proceed with their orders are given priority in the ordering process. Tire kickers can exit stage left.

But remember, buyers of early Cybertrucks still won’t be able to flip them for profit according to Tesla’s latest buying terms.
