Tesla Mexico is Coming and All Permits Secured, Says State

After initial rumors suggesting that Tesla would not proceed with the construction of a Gigafactory in the municipality of Santa Catarina were debunked, Iván Rivas, the Secretary of State Economy, confirmed that Tesla has secured all necessary federal and state permits.

“Tesla is coming, Tesla is working, Tesla has in some way already started construction, just like the Government of Nuevo León; we are doing it in parallel,” Rivas stated on the program Cambios with Víctor Martínez, reports Milenio.

Rivas also highlighted that Nuevo León is experiencing an economic boom with record levels of foreign direct investment.

“In these two years, we have been able to announce more than 190 projects representing around $37 billion, while in the last six years, it was $16 billion,” he said. According to Rivas, 76% of nearshoring in Mexico is coming to Nuevo León, and the state is generating significant employment.

“From January to August, we have already generated 89,000 jobs, compared to last year’s 77,000 for the entire year,” he added.

The Secretary emphasized that the state is becoming a hub for electromobility and is ready to attract companies related to “sectors of the future,” including Industry 4.0 technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and electromobility.

“Here there is light, here there is water, here there is gas, here there is all the supply; many companies are going to arrive, there will be many jobs, and we are ready to receive all these investments,” Rivas concluded.

Tesla will be producing its next-gen vehicle at Giga Mexico, with the latest factory debuting a more efficient manufacturing technique for mass production.
