Tesla Files Permit for ‘Cyber Cafeteria’ at Giga Texas

Tesla has filed a permit to construct a $10.5 million cafeteria at its Giga Texas facility, according to documents from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Named the “Cyber Cafeteria,” the project is slated to replace an existing facility within the complex. The cafeteria will span 22,639 square feet and is expected to commence construction on October 25, 2023, with a completion date set for May 1, 2024, according to documents spotted by ConstructIntel.com, reports Teslarati.

The timing of the Cyber Cafeteria’s completion coincides with the anticipated production ramp-up of Tesla’s all-electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has indicated that significant volumes of the Cybertruck are expected to be produced in 2024. The company is also planning to hold the first delivery event for the Cybertruck in the fourth quarter of this year.

Jason Shawhan, Tesla’s Director of Manufacturing at Giga Texas, highlighted the facility’s growing workforce during a keynote address at the State of Manufacturing conference. He noted that the Giga Texas complex currently employs over 20,000 workers and could potentially expand to 60,000 employees as Cybertruck production reaches full capacity.

While only a permit has been filed for the Cyber Cafeteria, it is anticipated that design renders may be shared online in the coming months. Given its name, the cafeteria is expected to feature a design aesthetic that aligns with the cyberpunk theme of the Cybertruck.
