Tom Zhu, Tesla’s Global Production Chief, had previously announced the production of the company’s 4 millionth vehicle on March 1, 2023. “The accomplishment was made early this morning at Giga Texas,” Zhu said at the time. A celebratory video featuring the Giga Texas team was later shared by Tesla.
The 5 millionth vehicle announcement follows Tesla’s production of its 3 millionth car, which was disclosed at the annual shareholders meeting on August 4, 2022.
Tesla extended its gratitude to its owners and supporters globally, emphasizing the collective effort to “power up together” for a greener and better future.
Next up for Tesla is to officially start deliveries of its highly-anticipated Cybertruck, which anecdotally has reached an unofficial tally of over 2 million pre-orders.
Last week, Tesla also announced it had hit a milestone of 50,000 total Superchargers globally. The company painted its 50,000th Supercharger in ‘Ultra Red’ and it’s located here in California.
