Tesla Might Offer a Scratch-Proof Coating for Cybertruck

Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted at the possibility of offering an optional tungsten carbide coating for the company’s upcoming Cybertruck. The coating would make the vehicle virtually scratch-proof to materials below diamond hardness.

Musk’s statement came in response to a social media comment suggesting that those attempting to key a Cybertruck would end up damaging their keys instead.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is engineered with a focus on durability and passenger protection. The vehicle’s external structure, or exoskeleton, is constructed from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel, designed to minimize dents, damage, and long-term corrosion. This monochrome exoskeleton is positioned on the vehicle’s exterior to offer maximum protection to passengers.

In addition to the steel skin, the Cybertruck is equipped with Tesla Armor Glass. This is a composite of ultra-strong glass and polymer layers, formulated to absorb and redirect impact forces, thereby improving the vehicle’s performance and resistance to damage.

Back in 2020 when Musk let Jay Leno drive the Cybertruck, and when asked why the latter has bulletproof glass? Musk answered because it’s “badass” and “super-cool.” A super hard coating on the outside would make the truck even more epic.
