The Weekly Supercharger: California Love!!
Here we are, yet again for Week 5 of the Weekly Supercharger.
This week, as you may have been able to tell, most of this will be centered around California Love, lots of it. Yep, this edition, I’ve got 5 California releases, along with 2 in another state, both of which are less than 20 miles from the California state line… and we have 2 other sites in Arizona and Florida.
So, if you live in California, get ready for a good read. And if not, well good luck 🙂
To kick it off we have a new site in… California! To be specific, a new Supercharger is coming to the southern California city of Whittier. Back in April, Tesla filed a development review project in order to build a 16-stall charging station at Whittier Village Plaza on the east side of town. The project is currently pending, and not much has happened since the initial filing date.
Moving on, there wouldn’t be any California Love without a new Supercharger in Los Angeles, so that’s what we’ve got here! Last May, permits were filed for a 24-stall site at La Rinda Plaza in Sylmar. The mall is located right off Interstate 5 on Rinaldi Street, and while part of the mall is located in the city of San Fernando, permits have been filed with LADBS, which means this Supercharger will likely not be built for another 50 years (just joking).
Now, we head towards Northern California, where the Silicon Valley city of Redwood is getting its first Supercharger. In April, permits were filed for a 16-stall station at Woodside Central Mall on El Camino Real. As of today, the project is still in review.
For today’s only update, in California… obviously, permits for the newest Hayward Supercharger were recently issued, meaning construction is soon to begin. We covered the original filing during Week 1, but as of the issue date, the site plans for the station were released, which show the location in better detail.
Remaining in Silicon Valley, we have another medium-sized Supercharger that’s planned in Milpitas. Just two weeks ago, Tesla filed permits for their seventh Supercharger station in the city, and already the second location on Barber Lane. It was only in May when permits were filed for a 20-stall Supercharger at Ulferts Center, and now permits are in for an 18-stall station at Milpitas Square, which is quite literally down the street. So, when it opens, that’ll make 38 stalls on Barber alone and around 60 stalls within a half-mile radius.
And, for the last Supercharger in California, there’s a new location coming to Walnut Creek. Permits were filed in June for the city’s third Supercharger, a 12-stall site to be built at the Ygnacio Plaza Shopping Center.
Finally, it’s time to leave California, but it’s not more than 100 yards into the state of Nevada that we find a new Supercharger that is planned in the small town of Verdi. Just two days ago, Tesla filed permits for a 21-stall station at the Gold Ranch Casino right off Interstate 80. As a matter of fact, the Casino is so close to state lines that there is California Lottery outlet on the west end of the parking lot.
Heading 20 miles to the southeast, it turns out that permits have been filed for a new Supercharger in the city of Reno. On the same day as Verdi, permits were submitted for a 12-stall site by the Raley’s grocery store at Galena Junction Shopping Center. Interestingly, this mall is located at the southernmost point of the incorporated city of Reno, which is kind of funny seen how Verdi is on the westernmost edge of the state.
At last, we now depart from the money-gobbling frenzy of California Superchargers and head to Phoenix, az there is another new Supercharger coming to the East Valley. Last week, a zoning clearance / design review permit was submitted for a 12-stall station at the Chandler Pavillions Shopping Mall off Interstate 10 at Ray Road. Building permits are set to follow in the coming months.
And for the last Supercharger of the day (and to kind of balance out today’s releases), we venture out to Central Florida, where permits have been filed for a fifth Supercharger in Kissimmee. Late last month, Tesla submitted a site development plan in order to build a 12-stall station at the Wawa convenience store on Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy.
So that’s all for this week. While I did promise a massive release for this week, I decided to push it back due to a slight lack of information. That said, I’ve now got all the info, so I’m bound to release it soon. See you next week, and here’s your map.
