The Weekly Supercharger: So Many Supercharger Agreements (Week 2)

Welcome everyone to the Week 2 of The Weekly Supercharger!! As you may have seen from the title, today’s highlights will be especially centered around Supercharger agreements. With Tesla slowly opening the network to other manufacturers, more and more municipalities are getting on board with the idea hosting Superchargers on community property, as this is the case with 4 out of the 7 new Superchargers for this week.

Like last time, you will find the TL;DR map at the bottom of the post.

As far as most Supercharger Agreements go, you’ll find a lot of complex language, pertaining to the contractual obligations of the affected parties. Being the simple, uneducated person I am, I will be going over the key points of each site, instead of the legal schmutz which I don’t care for.

To kick it off, we’ve got a new Supercharger coming to the small Los Angeles County city of Sierra Madre. Last month, the city entered into an agreement with Tesla to build a 12-stall charging station at 30 S Baldwin Ave. The subject property is a municipal-owned parking lot, located just 1 block away from the city center.

Next up, surprise surprise, is another site in California, but this time it is located way up north near the state’s border with Oregon. Earlier this month, the board of commissioners from the Crescent City Harbor District discussed the signing of an agreement with Tesla to build a 12-stall Supercharger on harbor property. The full scope of the installation also includes 4 Level 2 chargers, likely the Tesla J1772 Wall Connectors.

For the last Californian Supercharger of the week (I can already hear the cheering), we have a site coming to the small Central Coast city of Guadalupe. During last week’s meeting, members of the city council discussed the possibility of signing an agreement with Tesla to bring 15 Supercharger stalls, as well as 12 Destination chargers, to the Veterans Memorial Plaza parking lot in the downtown area.

However, an objection was raised about the requirement for the site to be available 24/7 365 days a year, which would mean that local festivities and events could no longer occur on that stretch of Guadalupe Street. As a result, no decision was made at the meeting, and the city is currently in talks with Tesla about the next course of action.

Now, with the last Supercharger Agreement of the week, we head out to Eufaula, Alabama. Back in June, the city signed an agreement with Tesla in order to build 16 Supercharger stalls in a future municipal parking lot on W Broad St. The site, which is located near the downtown core, is set to feature 3 prefabricated Supercharger units (each with 4 stalls) and 4 pull-through stalls, as well as a passcode accessible restroom.

And we’re finally back to regular releases, which brings us to an upcoming Supercharger in Western Missouri. Two weeks ago, the city of Belton announced via Facebook that a new Tesla Charging Station is planned at the Hy-Vee off Interstate 49. Building plans show that the site will have 12 stalls on the north end of the parking lot. The site is now under construction, according to the city’s website.

Up next, a Supercharger was recently permitted in New Albany, Ohio. Last month, plan review permits were filed for an 8-stall charging site at the newly built Sheetz on Hamilton Road. The chargers are set to be built in the southern parking stalls behind the gas pumps.

Lastly, in terms of the new sites, we have a Supercharger coming to Nortonville, Kentucky. Dig tickets were filed last month for an excavation behind the Marathon Gas station. According to the excavator, the work is being done for Tesla, which points towards this being preliminary work for the chargers. Additionally, this is the same contractor who is currently building the Lexington Supercharger on Meijer Way.

Moving on to the updates for this week and we’ve got a few sites spread out across the country.

First off is Zephyr Cove, Nevada. I had posted this one way back in June on a hunch, although only recently did a qualified exemption request confirm that Superchargers were planned – 12 of them (although permits say 16). Permits were also filed this week with Douglas County.

Next, some more Superchargers are coming to Memphis. This week, permits filed with the city confirmed that Tesla is building two new sites in the city, for a total of 40 stalls.

The first is located at 55 S Highland St and will have 16 stalls. The second, located at 4062 Elvis Presley Blvd (just a block away from Graceland) will have 24. Curiously, Tesla may have accidentally admitted that Elvis Presley will have V4 Superchargers, but I guess time will tell.

Lastly, here’s a full plan release for the Grand Rapids Supercharger in Michigan. I had actually had these as a preset release the day my account got suspended, so they were unfortunately never posted, but here they are now. 8 stalls are planned at the Family Fare Supermarket on Lake Michigan Drive.

That’s all for this week. If you enjoyed the read, be sure to come by next Friday for Week 3. And here’s your map 🙂
