Polestar 2 Gets YouTube, Apple CarPlay Improvements and More

Polestar 2 OTA update

Today, Polestar released its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, P2.9, to all existing Polestar 2 vehicles. This marks the fifteenth OTA software enhancement for Polestar 2 since 2020.

The upgrade comes with a host of advancements, including the addition of the YouTube app, which will also come pre-installed in all future vehicles. This feature, however, will not be available in China and South Korea. Users can access YouTube content when their vehicles are parked.

“We are well aware of the anticipation surrounding our over-the-air upgrades. This update, brimming with significant features and enhancements, is bound to satisfy our customers. Alongside offering entertainment via YouTube during charging, we’re also augmenting our Range Assistant app for more accurate predictions and improved driving style. Additionally, we’ve made significant upgrades to Apple CarPlay in Polestar 2, including bringing Apple Maps to the driver display,” said Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath in a statement.

The latest upgrade to the Range Assistant app brings more efficient energy management. The enhanced app now provides drivers the ability to track their energy consumption over the previous 20, 40, or 100 km, offering real-time information to offer better driver efficiency. The app’s updated algorithm can now accurately predict the range, taking into consideration various factors such as environmental changes that impact efficiency.

The update also brings changes to the driver display, allowing drivers to view real-world related range figures instead of the standard certified data-based range projection.

Apple CarPlay has also received substantial updates in the P2.9 version. The new features include extended phone and media information on the home screen tile, handling of calls through steering wheel buttons, and projecting calls and Apple Maps onto the car’s driver display, enhancing user convenience and integration.
