Tesla is gearing up to start selling Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles from Gigafactory Shanghai in South Korea, according to certifications the company recently obtained in the country (via @Tslachan).
Until now, all Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles available for sale in Korea came from the company’s Fremont, California, factory. As for the Model Y, the automaker currently only sells the Long Range and Performance trims of the electric vehicle (EV) in the country.
While Tesla started importing U.S.-made Model Y RWD units to Korea in the past, the company put off plans to launch sales there when it suspended Model Y RWD production at Fremont.
Earlier this week, listings on Tesla’s website confirmed that the company is also set to begin selling Giga-Shanghai-made Model 3 and Model Y EVs, including the Model Y RWD, in Canada. It looks like South Korea will be joining Canada in receiving Model Y RWD units produced in China.
