Most Efficient Electric SUV Ever Built: Tesla’s Model Y

Tesla on Sunday touted that its Model Y compact crossover SUV is the “most efficient electric SUV ever built”, compared to competitors.

The charge shared showed off energy efficiency in EPA range for small AWD SUVs, when it came to miles driven per kWh.

The Model Y can go 4.0 miles per kWH, which is ahead of the Volkswagen ID.4 (3.2), Ford Mustang Mach-E (3.1), Jaguar iPace (2.7) and Audi e-tron (2.6). We’ve seen many third-party Model Y range tests on YouTube that verify this claim.

Tesla’s combination of vehicle aerodynamics, battery technology, software and hardware enable it to lead far ahead of traditional automakers. Vehicle efficiency is important for road trips and also driving in winter climates as the latter can impact range significantly. Tesla’s software and hardware efficiencies (using a heat pump for example) allow the company’s vehicles to go just that much further than the rest.

The Model Y has become one of the most popular choices for police departments switching to EVs. Recently, the 7-seat version of the Model Y saw a price drop, while Tesla introduced a RWD version in Canada again, said to be imported from Giga Shanghai.
